It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the record chasers, are the only things left for a team that has won it all.

That it took until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their hitters to maintain a record if not afforded the chance.

Finally, the consequence of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to deliver her newest gem.

Then best known as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not fail again.

If this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the reasoning behind final game tension. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was far harder to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it's been a disappointing period because I feel like I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her key asset - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and after that the batsman was in motion.

"The possibility to play and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I am glad we have the assurance to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the last rival teams at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this victory following success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have postponed plans to retire, this World Cup is expected to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her final mountain.
